Glutenvrije cinnamon rolls

Gluten free cinnamon rolls – the fast recipe

I only knew cinnamon rolls from TV or from hipster coffee bars. The smell was so extremely delicious, but I just couldn’t taste it due to gluten. As I always thought you need lots of patience to prepare the original recipe, I never came round to making gluten free cinnamon rolls.

That’s why I prepared a recipe for others who also lack patience. And do you prefer to eat the gluten version? Then just add normal flour instead.

What do you need for 10 cinnamon rolls?

  • 225 grams of gluten free flour + a bit extra
  • 30 grams of gluten substitute (I used the brand Orgran)
  • 8 grams of baking powder
  • 90 grams of unsalted butter
  • 30 grams of sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • a pinch of salt
  • 160 ml milk

Voor de filling

  • 60 grams of butter
  • 100 grams of brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

How to make these gluten free cinnamon rolls

Use a standing mixer with a dough hook (or a strong set of fingers) to knead the gluten free flour, the gluten substitute, the baking powder, butter, sugar, cinnamon and salt to a compact mixture. As the dough will still be very dry, add the milk bit for bit and keep on kneading with the dough hook. When everything is mixed through, start shaping a ball of the dough.

Take a sauce pan for melting the butter for the filling of the rolls. When the butter is melted, stir it through the brown sugar and cinnamon.

Now preheat the oven to 180 degrees C.

Dust the countertop with the extra flour and roll out the ball of dough into a rectangle of about 35×25 centimeters, make sure the dough is a layers of 2-3 centimeters thick. Cut away the edges if you didn’t create a perfect rectangle at once (like me). Cover the whole surface with the butter-sugar mixture, make sure you don’t leave spaces out.

Then start by carefully wrapping up the layer on the long side of the rectangle. When you have created a beautiful roll, start cutting the dough with a sharp (!) knife into slices of about 5 centimeters. Place the rolls next to each other in an oven dish with a bit of space between them. When the dough starts rising, they’ll be hugging each other perfectly.

Put the oven dish in the oven for 25 minutes and snif the air while baking it. It’s so YUM. After the given time let the cinnamon rolls cool off a bit, but eat them while they’re still a bit warm.
