How to make your own gluten free soft shell tacos
People who need to eat gluten free, probably know that gluten free food can be very expensive. In the Netherlands for example these soft shell tacos are quite pricey, while you can make them easy by yourself. So hereby: a DIY for delicious gluten free soft shell tacos.
Ingredients for 14 small soft shell tacos
- 300 grams of gluten free flour (I used the brand Schär, others can be less flexible for kneading)
- a pinch of salt
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
- 1 teaspoon of baking powder
- 200 ml of warm water
How to prepare these gluten free soft shell tacos
We start by making the dough. Weigh the right amount of flour and add it to a spacious bowl. Add the salt and olive oil to the flour. Measure the exact amount of warm water and pour a bit of the water in a glass, add the baking powder to the water in the glass and stir until bubbles appear. Add both types of water to the bowl with flour and knead with your fingers into a ball. Cover with a sheet of foil and leave to rest for 10 minutes.
Make 14 small balls of the big ball of dough. Put a pan on the stove without any oil in it. Take a large cutting board and dust with a bit of flour, start rolling the little balls of dough into tacos. Bake each taco for about 50 seconds per side on a high temperature. Repeat the process until all tacos are baked and pile them on a plate. You can store them with a sheet of foil in the fridge until you need them. If you wish to use them on another day, you can also store them in the freezer. Just heat the tacos in the microwave whenever needed.
